  • Experience Getting a Root Canal Treatment
dentist explaining root canal

Many people get scared at the mere prospect of needing a root canal. Uncertainty over what transpires during a procedure may cause the worry and anxiety associated with the abovementioned treatment.

One of our top priorities at Valley Ridge Dental Centre is ensuring that our patients know everything we do in our office to maintain their happiness and health. The experience we had getting a root canal and why you shouldn’t be afraid to have one yourself are covered in the following article.

What is a Root Canal?

Root canal therapy is also known as endodontic treatment. It is referred to as the “inside of the tooth.”

Root canal therapy is an endodontic procedure that tries to save the interior of a tooth. The likelihood of the tooth dying and necessitating extraction increases as the infection spreads to the interior of the tooth, which contains all the vital nerves and blood vessels. At this point, the dentist may advise finding root canal therapy near you.

Signs a Root Canal is Needed

  • Sensitivity to hot or cold temperatures
  • Discoloration of the tooth
  • Severe pain while chewing or biting
  • Swelling and tenderness in the surrounding gums
  • A cracked or chipped tooth

How the Procedure Works

The treatment is pain-free and simple. Our dentist near you will start the process by giving you a local anesthetic to numb the surrounding gums and affected teeth. A piece of rubber, a dental dam, is placed over the tooth to keep the area dry and saliva-free. It will help to keep the site sterile and isolated from the rest of the mouth.

A hole is drilled into the tooth to expose the pulp and allow the dentist to remove the affected tissue. Once the dead pulp has been removed, the tooth’s interior is cleansed and disinfected, and then it is carefully sealed to avoid problems or infections.

Root Canal Treatment Recovery

Your mouth will feel impassive for a few hours following the operation. It is best not to eat something that might cause you to choke because of the food scraps. After a root canal, your tooth may feel sensitive for a few days, but this is treatable with over-the-counter drugs. Avoid chewing on the afflicted tooth until the surgery is finished and the tooth has been properly sealed.

In contrast to some dental procedures, most patients who undergo root canal therapy can resume their normal daily activities the following day.

The Treatment is less Painful Than It Looks

Instead of the procedure itself, the discomfort associated with a root canal was caused by the infection. Although it’s not necessarily a symptom for everyone who had the therapy, some mild soreness or discomfort may be felt following the treatment. The goal of the treatment is to reduce pain, not enhance it.

Follow the directions carefully if given antibiotics since they must be taken immediately.
